We recently visited Monasaba in Mississauga and tried the Mixed Mandi (Chicken & Lamb). The rice and chicken were excellent—the rice was buttery, flavorful, and infused with the right blend of spices and fat, just as Mandi should be. However, the lamb was disappointing—dry, tough, and lacking the signature juiciness that makes Mandi special. Traditionally, Mandi lamb should be tender, fatty, and effortlessly fall off the bone, but this version missed the mark.
The ambience is nice, offering an authentic Arab vibe with a dedicated prayer space, which is a thoughtful touch. However, parking can be a hassle on weekends, so plan accordingly.
Overall, it’s worth trying once, but I hope they improve the lamb Mandi to better reflect the rich, tender, and juicy flavors of traditional Yemeni cuisine.
