What people say about (Leela Indian Food Bar (Gerrard) - Best Indian Restaurant in Toronto)

James Walker

After a long and hectic day at work, I decided to take my family out for something different and we ended up at Leela Indian Food Bar on Gerrard Street. Honestly, it turned out to be the perfect decision. The moment we walked in, the ambience just pulled us in — vibe that made us instantly feel relaxed. We weren’t very familiar with Indian cuisine, but the staff was incredibly helpful and walked us through the menu with great suggestions. We ordered a few dishes, and every single bite was bursting with flavor. The taste was so delicious and comforting, it genuinely lifted my mood after the long day. Service was smooth. Leela gave us not just a great meal, but a much-needed midweek breather. Will definitely be visiting again!

Decadent decor inside and out that was well suited for a bar atmosphere. For a restaurant though, the food was quite underwhelmed, especially given the higher prices. Food was well presented but didn’t quite live up to their taste. - Eggplant Fries didn’t have much taste without the side dips. - Aloo Gobhi was room temperature and cauliflowers and potatoes were overdone. - Charcoal Butter Chicken was probably the only lifesaver. Most dishes were on the mild-er spicy side, even for butter chicken. The fried onions on the biryani rice tasted stale, probably from the oil. All in all, give it a try and be your own judge (but perhaps a table indoor would preserve the food temp better than the side patio).

From the moment we arrived, the experience was excellent—staff kindly offered us parking in the back since street parking was limited. The customer service was truly outstanding: warm, attentive, and welcoming throughout our visit. The ambiance is fun, vibrant, and full of energy, and the restaurant itself is very clean and well-kept. We ordered the Lamb Saag and Shrimp Malai Curry—both were absolutely delicious. The Burani was perfectly balanced, and the naan was fresh, soft, and flavorful. Highly recommend Leela Indian Cuisine for its amazing food, great service, and clean, lively atmosphere!
