We drove by Machboos a week ago and decided to give it a try. I asked the cook/owner what was fresh? He said, “it’s all fresh!”. Well was he right! We had the fish and stump combo, the lamb machboos and fasoolia and okra sauce, with flat bread. It was all delicious! The fish was lightly breaded and not too oily, the beans and bread were great and the bread was hot and fluffy and finally, my personal favourite, the lamb machboos, it was flavourful rice with raisins and soft pieces of lamb that were flavourful and absolutely falling off the bone! The best lamb I’ve had in Ottawa so far. The owner was genuinely interested in us as customers, asking us where we were from and commenting on Iraqi history, and the fusion between Kuwaiti and Iraqi cooking that is Machboos. We felt comfortable and taken care of. It is a small restaurant next to Juice Dudez, and is definitely worth a try or to order catering! 10/10!
